In 2009 Brookwood Baptist Church established a Sewing Ministry to make and donate products to local hospitals, nursing homes, NICU, homeless shelters, Pregnancy Center and pediatric units. Our volunteers use their time, talents and treasure to touch lives, to minister to those in need and spread the love of Christ in this unique way.
The items we make are either not available commercially or are cost prohibitive. We also sew for the BBC Children’s and Homebound Ministries. During Covid we made and distributed over 1,500 masks to our members, clinics, hospitals, medical insurance companies and the Caddo Parish Sheriff Office.
Each month we make and deliver the following items, free of charge:
Crutch Covers; Scarves & Shawls; Lap Throws; Butterfly Pillows; Pediatric Pillowcases; Walker Bags; Palm Pillows; Cell Phone Bags; Heart Taggies; Cardiac Pillows; NICU Z-Flow Sheets; Medical Play Dolls; Medical Play Doll Gowns
BBC Sewing Ministry meets once a month for a “Come & Go” event. Each worker comes and leaves as their personal schedule allows. We dress very casually and bring a bag lunch if we want to stay all day. And, you do not have to be a member of Brookwood to participate. No RSVP: A monthly email reminder goes to each worker.
Are you interested in serving in this Ministry? We have workers who attend Sewing each month and others who work only from home. If you think you don’t have the necessary skills, think again! Here is a partial list of skills we need each month:
Iron; Sew; Crochet; Trace Patterns; Fold; Cut; Count; Donate $$$; Turn; Stuff; Inspect; Memorial Donations;
Knit; Pin; Deliver; Pray
In addition, each year we teach elementary and middle school students about community service through the sewing ministry.
